What is Hypnosis?
There is no generalised feeling of hypnosis but it is a state of neither being asleep or awake. It is often experienced as a state of relaxation and focus of concentration that individuals allow themselves to enter so that beneficial suggestions can be given directly to the unconscious mind. However, the individual remains fully aware of everything that is going on around him. Thus it is a totally natural, safe and effective way of altering ideas in the unconscious which are causing problems in our everyday lives.
Hypnosis itself is nothing more than a tool and it does not do anything until it is put to use. Hypnotherapy is a skill which uses the tool of hypnosis for the administration of many varied forms of psychotherapy.

Common Misconceptions About Hypnosis
Despite what you may have seen on the TV or in the media, you will always be aware of what you are doing and what is being said to you under hypnosis. You cannot be made to do anything or behave in any way that is against your moral or ethical code. You do not go to sleep or become unconscious at any time and you do not leave your body or lose your mind. You cannot get “stuck” in a state of hypnosis, you are totally in control and can leave the hypnotic state whenever you decide. You will not say “funny things” or blurt out dark secrets against your will and there is no such thing as a generalised “hypnotised feeling”, so what one person may experience could be totally different from another.

Hypnosis is a totally natural state and there are no harmful side effects.
